Strichartz Estimates for the Wave Equation on Manifolds with Boundary

Strichartz estimates are well established on flat Euclidean space, where M = R and gij = δij . In that case, one can obtain a global estimate with T = ∞; see for example Strichartz [27], Ginibre and Velo [9], Lindblad and Sogge [16], Keel and Tao [14], and references therein. However, for general manifolds phenomena such as trapped geodesics and finiteness of volume can preclude the development...

Absorbing boundary conditions for the wave equation and parallel computing

Absorbing boundary conditions have been developed for various types of problems to truncate infinite domains in order to perform computations. But absorbing boundary conditions have a second, recent and important application: parallel computing. We show that absorbing boundary conditions are essential for a good performance of the Schwarz waveform relaxation algorithm applied to the wave equati...

A nonlinear approach to absorbing boundary conditions for the semilinear wave equation

We construct a family of absorbing boundary conditions for the semilinear wave equation. Our principal tool is the paradifferential calculus which enables us to deal with nonlinear terms. We show that the corresponding initial boundary value problems are well posed. We finally present numerical experiments illustrating the efficiency of the method.

Numerical Absorbing Boundary Conditions for the Wave Equation

We develop a theory of difference approximations to absorbing boundary conditions for the scalar wave equation in several space dimensions. This generalizes the work of the author described in [8]. The theory is based on a representation of analytical absorbing boundary conditions proven in [8]. These conditions are defined by compositions of first-order, one-dimensional differential operators....

Convolution quadrature for the wave equation with impedance boundary conditions

We consider the numerical solution of the wave equation with impedance boundary conditions and start from a boundary integral formulation for its discretization. We develop the generalized convolution quadrature (gCQ) to solve the arising acoustic retarded potential integral equation for this impedance problem. For the special case of scattering from a spherical object, we derive representation...
